An extension to the rear. with a roof junction behind, has made getting natural daylight to this space problematic to say the least.<\/p>\n

Various manufacturers produce ‘Sun-pies’- essentially reflective tubes to bounce sunlight from outside to a circular diffuser. Below is a Velux version. These could be used to get daylight from the awkward to reach South East side of the roof. An on-line calculation can be found HERE.<\/a><\/p>\n

One problem with the current roof lights is that they are set between trussed rafters at relatively close centres, through a conventional ‘Cold roof’ (with the insulation at ceiling level). See rough sketch below:<\/p>\n

More radical surgery \u00a0could involve a short section of warm roof (Ceiling follows external line of roof, rather than straight across the room). This will necessitate re-laying the roof with special insulation board, counter- battens & an impervious membrane, but has the advantage of allowing large areas of unobstructed daylight. Existing sun-pipe could be concentrated on the side corridors, possibly from a more South facing sections of roof.<\/p>\n
